Our Story
Founded in 2024, Adopt A Filter was born out of a desire to solve two critical problems simultaneously: the lack of safe drinking water in rural India, and the declining livelihood of traditional clay artisans.
The Dual Crisis
India is home to 18% of the world's population but only has 4% of its water resources. In rural areas, the reality is stark: families often rely on open water sources that are breeding grounds for waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid.
Simultaneously, we noticed another quiet crisis. The traditional potters — artisans whose families have crafted earthen clay pots (Matkas) for generations — are being driven out of business by cheap plastic alternatives and electric refrigerators. Their craft, deeply intertwined with Indian culture, was dying.

Reviving a Legacy
The Matka is a brilliant piece of ancient engineering. The porous clay allows minimal water evaporation, naturally keeping the stored water cool even in the brutal 45°C Indian summers. Furthermore, the clay helps maintain a healthy pH balance and retains essential minerals in the water.
Our lightbulb moment was simple but powerful: What if we could use this culturally accepted, naturally brilliant vessel as the foundation for a modern purification system?
A Sustainable Ecosystem
By integrating a gravity-based multi-stage purification core into these traditional pots, we've created a closed-loop system of impact. For every filter deployed:
Health
A family gains access to 4,000L of disease-free water.
Livelihood
Local potters receive a steady income, preserving their craft.
Environment
Zero electricity used, zero plastic bottles wasted.
